Gareth Bush is a local musician and student at Western University. He's been putting out music for the last six years, but his latest effort, a cover of Britney Spears and's song "Scream and Shout," has garnered a lot of play on the internet in both Canada and the United States. He was a bit surprised when he noticed his Israeli following increase as well.

"I was checking the comments on Youtube, and I started noticing a lot more people in Israel commenting. People started saying 'yeah I heard it on TV,'or 'I heard it on a commercial' and I was like, 'what are you talking about?" said Gareth.

Turns out that Sport One, a major sports network in Israel had used Gareth's song on a soccer commercial. Gareth got fans in Israel to send him recordings through email of the advertisement to confirm the fact.

Although Bush is gaining fans abroad from this, he's not actually going to see any royalties from the song.  SOCAN, the Canadian copyright collective, told him that he's not going to get a cent from this because he did not seek permission from Britney Spears and to do a cover. According to him, that means that people don't have to seek his permission to use his version of the song.

"So, no. I can't get any royalties or anything from it. But I'm OK with that. I think it's one of the coolest things to happen to me!"

Gareth Bush is releasing his latest CD This is For Keeps on Tuesday, January 29th. For more information, visit Gareth Bush's Facebook.
